Maserati 4000 Quattroporte, year 1970. (First registration 22 October 1970). Chassis number AM1071212, engine number 18427365. Colour blue metallic combined with a beige leather interior and pale brown carpet. This Quattroporte comes from the second series (tipo AM107) of which only about 530 cars were built from 1966 until 1970. This impressive machine was imported to the Netherlands in the year 2007, then the bodywork was restored and given new paint. The automobile is in a good and very original condition. The interior, the engine compartment, and the boot are fully original and show normal traces of age and use. Recently the carburettors were overhauled and adjusted by BCCP in the Netherlands and the brakes were overhauled. Currently the odometer shows 28.874 kilometres. This Quattroporte is fitted with the 260 bhp 4.1 Litre V8 engine which is mated to a 5-speed manually operated gearbox. In the 1960s the Maserati Quattroporte was with the fastest production four-seater four-door saloon cars of the period (with the Facel Vega and the Lagonda Rapide). The 4.7 Litre version of the Quattroporte was the fastest four door production car in 1968 with a claimed top speed of 255 km/h. The Maserati Quattroporte was designed by Piero Frua and production was handled by Vignale. The aluminium Maserati V8 engine features double overhead camshafts fitted with four double Weber carburettors. The driving experience is magnificent; the dashboard and the controls are driver focussed, and easy to operate. The ride is comfortable and the V8 exhaust note adds a wonderful sporty touch to the driving impressions. Very nice is the presence of a period correct Blaupunkt Köln top end radio which was also fitted in other exclusive cars of the period. This Maserati 4000 Quattroporte is a delightful driver car in very good and exceptionally original condition! A fantastic and rare collector car.

The Maserati Quattroporte (tipo 107 1st and 2nd series) was built from 1963 until 1970. The Quattroporte was the first four-door luxury sedan to combine high performance with elegant Italian design. The car was designed by Pietro Frua, and the production was handled by Vignale. The Quattroporte design was inspired by the Maserati 5000 GT coupé. The Quattroporte featured advanced luxury items that were first seen on American luxury automobiles like power windows and air conditioning (optional). The first 230 cars featured an advanced De Dion rear axle, from 1966 a less complicated leaf sprung Salisbury axle was fitted. The Quattroporte was powered by a 4.1 Litre (260 bhp) V8 engine. From 1968 a 4.7 litre (286 bhp) V8 engine became also available. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a ZF 5-speed manually operated gearbox or an automatic (Borg Warner 3-speed) gearbox which was optionally available. Fitted with the 4.7 Litre V8 engine and the manual gearbox the Quattroporte was the fastest four-door production saloon of its time with a top speed of 255 km/h (158 mph). The Maserati Quattroporte Tipo 107 is rare, 230 series 1 cars were built, and around 530 series 2 cars.
